HC Deb 14 July 1924 vol 176 c54W
Mr. WIGNALL

asked the Minister of Labour if he is aware of the inconvenience caused to the residents of Ruardean, Dry-brook and the surrounding district from the want of a sub-Employment Exchange office for unemployment registration and payment of unemployment benefit, and that at present unemployed persons have to register at Cinderford, which is four miles from the furthest point of the district, making the return journey one of eight miles; and will he consider the advisibility of arranging for a sub-Employment Exchange to be opened at Ruar-dean, which is in the centre of the district which at present has no facilities for registration?

Mr. SHAW

I have made inquiries into the position of residents in the Ruardean neighbourhood with regard to Employment Exchange facilities, and in view of the conditions at present existing am arranging for an office to be opened at Ruardean as soon as suitable premises can be obtained. The office will be a purely temporary one and will only be retained while circumstances justify its continuance.
