§ Mr. JOWETTThe house in question has been re-let to the sub-tenant whose tenancy is protected by the Rent Restriction Acts. In reply to the second part of the question, I have stated on previous occasions that the policy of sale was determined a year ago on legal advice being given to my Department that is was bound to endeavour to sell the houses on its housing estates. If, however, houses are not sold within a short period of becoming vacant, they are immediately re-let. It should also be made clear that the tenants on the estate have the protection of the Rent Restriction Acts whether the houses are owned by the Government or sold to a purchaser.
