§ Lieut.-Colonel HOWARD-BURYasked the Minister of Transport whether he will take steps to introduce legislation in the Autumn Session to carry out the recommendations of the Committee on the Taxation of Motor-cars, so that the recommendations may be made effective on 1st January, 1925, instead of having to wait until 1926?
§ Mr. GOSLINGThe recommendations of the Departmental Committee with2004W regard to the surrender of licences and with regard to the reduction in the surcharge for part year licences, have been anticipated in this year's Finance Bill. The Government have not yet had an opportunity of considering the other recommendations in the Report. Should they decide to adopt any further recommendations, involving a modification of the existing scale of licence duties, I do not think it would be practicable to give effect to them prior to the introduction of the Finance Bill for 1925.
