§ Captain BULLOCKasked the Minister of Labour the total numbers of unemployed on the Saturday in each of the last four weeks, and the reasons for any increase in the totals?
§ Mr. SHAWThe number of persons on the registers of Employment Exchanges in Great Britain in each of the last four weeks is as follows:—
There is each week a considerable change in the individuals on the registers, and the increase or decrease is ordinarily the net effect of fluctuations in a great many trades and districts. It may be stated, however, that the net increases on 9th and 16th June were largely the result of extended Whitsun holidays.
