§ Mr. VIANTasked the Minister of Health if he will introduce legislation amending the Public Health Act, 1875, Section 91, by extending the definition of nuisances to include common defects, as per the manual of the Ministry on unfit houses and unhealthy areas, volume I, page 11 (general repairs), thus enabling local authorities to deal with property in which grates, stoves, windows, window-frames, doors, walls, and ceilings are defective?

JOYNSON-HICKSThe local authority has power under Section 28 of the Housing, Town Planning, etc. Act, 1919, as amended by Section 10 of the Housing, etc., Act, 1923, to deal with working-class houses which are not in all respects reasonably fit for human habitation, and I think that these powers should ordinarily be sufficient.
