§ Mr. RAWSONasked the President of the Board of Trade what passenger-carrying shipping companies employ crews consisting of Lascars in whole or in part; and whether, in view of the fact that the Orient Company are able to man their ships with white crews, some regulations can be adopted for similar conditions in other big passenger lines, thus contributing towards the greater safety and comfort of passengers and the relief of unemployment in this country?
§ Viscount WOLMERI will send my hon. Friend a list of the lines which carry Lascars as soon as it can be prepared. To exclude Lascars, who are in the main British subjects, from British ships would require legislation, and there would be very serious objections to any such proposal.
