§ Mr. SNOWDENThe answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative so far as concerns civil servants who entered the service before the passing of the Superannuation Act, 1909, and effect is given to the provisions of the Section in appropriate cases of abolition of office. In accordance, however, with undertakings given to Parliament it has been the rule for many years past that any allowance granted under the Section shall not exceed the amount calculated upon the number of years actually served by the retiring officer.
