HC Deb 27 February 1924 vol 170 c493W
Mr. C. EDWARDS

asked the Minister of Health whether he has received letters from boards of guardians protesting against the inadequate compensation paid to injured workmen and their dependants under the new Compensation Act; whether he is aware that many of these persons have to apply for additional relief and that this Act has imposed a further burden on the poor rates; and what action the Government propose to take in the matter?

Mr. WHEATLEY

I have received communications on this subject from two boards of guardians, but I have no evidence that the effect of the Act has been to impose any increased burden on the rates, and therefore I see no reason for taking any action in the matter.
