HC Deb 27 February 1924 vol 170 cc515-6W
Mr. THURTLE

asked the President of the Board of Education whether it is his intention to restrict the number of new admissions to training colleges in 1924 to a point below the number of new admissions sanctioned for 1923 in Circular 1301; and whether authorities of training colleges may now give definite promises of admission to candidates for the autumn of 1924?

Mr. TREVELYAN

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. As regards the second part, authorities of training colleges may now promise admissions in 1924 up to the number sanctioned for 1923. I am also considering whether in view of all the circumstances I shall be justified in removing the restriction imposed by Circular 1301 in 1923, but I must defer a decision on that point for the present.
