HC Deb 27 February 1924 vol 170 cc486-7W
Mr. DUNCAN MILLAR

asked the Secretary for Scotland whether, in view of the inadequacy of the sum of £30,000 appropriated to slum-clearance schemes in Scotland, he proposes to take any action to secure the provision of a further amount for this purpose?

Mr. ADAMSON

The Treasury have agreed to the annual grant of £30,000 referred to in the question being substantially increased and the increase, which amounts to £15,000, has enabled the Scottish Board of Health to add to the annual State contribution to those local authorities who submitted schemes in accordance with the Board's circular of 18th August, 1922. The effect of this increased grant has been that the annual State contribution towards the estimated annual loss on each scheme as submitted has been raised to the 50 per cent. contemplated in Section 1 (3) of the Act of 1923.
