asked the Secretary for Scotland whether, in view of the desire of the Inverness-shire education authority, he will continue the system of examinations for leaving certificates, as these have proved of value to the students?

Mr. ADAMSON

I know nothing of any proposal to discontinue the leaving certificate examination. I can, therefore, only assume that what the hon. Member has in mind is Circular 60, which was the subject of a question addressed to me yesterday by the right hon. Member for Ross and Cromarty (Mr. Macpherson). I would refer the hon. Member to the reply then given, adding only that the representation to which I there referred was made by the Inverness-shire education authority.
