HC Deb 27 February 1924 vol 170 c481W
Mr. B. SMITH

asked the Prime Minister whether he has received a copy of the proposed Dock and Waterside Labour (Decasualisation) Bill; and whether he can hold out any hope, in view of the urgent necessity of dealing with this question, that it will be adopted as a Government Measure?

The PRIME MINISTER

As my hon. Friend is no doubt aware, it is part of the terms of settlement of the dockers' dispute that a Committee should be set up to inquire into the questions of de-casualisation and maintenance. The Government must await the Report of this Committee before coming to any decision with regard to the action to be taken; but I can assure my hon. Friend that the Report will be dealt with by the Government without delay.
