§ Mr. TILLETTasked the Minister of Transport whether he will cause an inquiry to be held into the conditions under which the workers on the canals and their families have to live, in order that steps may be taken to remedy such conditions?
Mr. GREENWOODI have been asked to reply to this question. The subject to which my hon. Friend refers was investigated by a Departmental Committee, which reported in 1921. Legislation would be required to carry out the recommendations of the Committee, and my right hon. Friend the Minister of Health cannot undertake to promote such legislation at the present time.
