Mr. SIMONasked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that an 1351W attempt is being made to force Post Office employés in the Manchester head post office to pay the expenses of cleaning and upkeep of the canteens, amounting to about £1,000 per annum, expenses rarely of never demanded by private employers, and that this is causing acute resentment among the staff; and will he undertake to withdraw these regulations at the earliest possible moment?
§ Mr. HARTSHORNThe matter has been brought to my notice. The regulations of which the Manchester Club complains are those prescribed by the Treasury for all Post Office refreshment clubs. The question will shortly be discussed with representatives of the staff through the machinery of the Departmental Whitley Council, and at present I am not in a position to make any definite statement on the subject.
