§ Sir L. LYLEasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he has received a representation from the Civil Service Clerical Association, urging that no further examinations should be held for shorthand typists while girls who have qualified in two or more previous examinations are still unappointed; and, if so, whether the Government proposes to comply with this request when filling up future vacancies?
Mr. GRAHAMI am informing this Association that whilst, as a matter of fact, all the girls who qualified at the last examination are being called up, it is not possible to comply with their request in general as the examinations are competitive and not qualifying, and it is necessary to hold them at regular intervals.
