§ Mr. HOFFMANasked the Minister of Agriculture whether, in view of the increase in the price of bread, he will, in order to make this country less dependent upon overseas supply, appoint a committee to advise upon the best way to encourage the home-growing of wheat, whether by way of stabilisation of prices, bonus on production, a national subsidy, or otherwise?
§ Mr. BUXTONThe methods mentioned by the hon. Member involve questions of general policy, the application of which cannot be confined to wheat growing, and which raise very controversial political issues. I feel, therefore, that there would be little advantage in the appointment of a committee for the purpose suggested.
