HC Deb 04 August 1924 vol 176 c2547W
Mr. HOFFMAN

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether, in view of the increase in the price of bread, he will, in order to make this country less dependent upon overseas supply, appoint a committee to advise upon the best way to encourage the home-growing of wheat, whether by way of stabilisation of prices, bonus on production, a national subsidy, or otherwise?

Mr. BUXTON

The methods mentioned by the hon. Member involve questions of general policy, the application of which cannot be confined to wheat growing, and which raise very controversial political issues. I feel, therefore, that there would be little advantage in the appointment of a committee for the purpose suggested.
