HC Deb 04 August 1924 vol 176 cc2552-3W
Mr. POTTS

asked the Minister of Labour why unemployment pay has been withheld for a period exceeding four weeks from the miners of the Kent coalfield, who have been locked out by the employers serving notices upon the workmen?

Miss BONDFIELD

Claims for benefit made by certain miners in the Kent coalfields were disallowed by the insurance officer on the statutory ground that they had lost employment owing to a stoppage of work due to a trade dispute. An appeal was made to the Court of Referees who upheld the insurance officer's decision. An appeal may now be made to the Umpire by an association acting on behalf of the claimants. I am unable to intervene in the matter.
