§ Mr. MIDDLETONasked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that schoolboys from elementary schools are employed by Messrs. Lever Brothers, Limited, to act as boy salesmen by soliciting orders for the firm; and whether, seeing that such employment of boys who are of school age constitutes an offence under the Employment of Children Act, he will take steps to secure the abolition of this form of employing school children outside their school hours?
§ Mr. BRIDGEMANI have no information that boys are being so employed, and without having particulars I am unable to express an opinion whether it would constitute a breach of the provisions of the Education Act, 1921, as to the employment of children. Any representations that boys are being illegally employed should be made to the local education authority, who are responsible for enforcing this part of the Act and the bye-laws made under it.
