§ Captain TERRELLasked the Minister of Agriculture whether, in view of the facilities which may now be given to Canada to import breeding animals, he is making any representations to the Canadian Government against the excessive regulations which are imposed upon British breeding animals being imported into Canada; and whether he will try to secure the same treatment for both types of animals?
§ Sir R. SANDERSAs I announced when moving the Second Reading of the Importation of Animals Bill on 7th December last, the Canadian authorities have agreed to modify their conditions of importation of British animals so soon as the necessary Order authorising the importation of Canadian breeding stock into Britain comes into force, in order to make the Canadian and British conditions reciprocal. There is no ground for apprehending that the Canadian Government will not honour this undertaking. At the same time, representations will be made not only to Canada, but to the other Dominions, that when an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease occurs in one limited area, the whole of England and Wales shall not be closed to exportation of cattle.
