HC Deb 26 March 1923 vol 162 c49W
Major KELLEY

asked the Prime Minister when the Government's proposals for rating reform and the removal of the inequalities of the present system of local taxation will be laid before the House: and whether, pending the removal of these inequalities, the Government will recommend a special grant in aid of necessitous industrial areas?

Mr. NEVILLE CHAMBERLAIN

I am not. yet in a position to make any statement in reply to the first part of the question. As to the second part, I am not prepared to give any undertaking, but in accordance with my promise to the deputation which I received from certain necessitous areas last Tuesday, officials of my Department have been appointed to discuss this question further with their representatives.
