HC Deb 26 March 1923 vol 162 cc63-4W
Mr. DUNCAN

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether the maintenance of Aldershot Barracks is done by private contractors; whether, when tendering for this work, a schedule of the wages of the workmen to be employed on this work is submitted with the tender or after the tender has been accepted; and whether any inquiry of any kind is made, and, if so, by whom,. to ensure that the Schedule wages are being paid to the workmen employed?

Mr. GWYNNE

As regards the first part of the question, the maintenance of barracks at Aldershot is carried out by contractors, who are required, as a condition of their contract, to comply with the Fair Wages Resolution of this House. They are not called on to submit beforehand a schedule of the wages of the-workmen to be employed, and the last part of the question does not, therefore, arise.
