HC Deb 26 March 1923 vol 162 cc69-70W
Sir W. DE FRECE

asked the President of the Board of Trade if, in view of the announcements on the subjects, he can state why the available supplies of cheese have fallen off; and whether there is any justification for the assertion that there will be a large increase in the price to the public?

Lieut.-Colonel BUCKLEY

Though I do not observe any important decrease in the recorded imports of cheese, either during the latest month for which the returns have been issued or during the with safety work in mines has not been last sight of, but there are financial and other difficulties in the way of its adoption by the Government in the case of an industry that do not arise in the case of one of His Majesty's Services. I will, however, certainly consider whether anything can usefully be done.
