HC Deb 21 March 1923 vol 161 c2598W
Mr. HURD

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport whether his attention has been called to the statement of the chairman of the Midsomer Norton Urban District Council that the council's account had been overspent on the district roads estimate by hundreds of pounds and that to put their district roads in a good state of repair would mean an expenditure equal to a rate of 4s. to 5s. in the £, largely owing to the wear and tear of heavy motor vehicles; and what proposals are in view to meet the heavy new burden thrown upon ratepayers in such areas by reason of the development of motor traffic?

Colonel ASHLEY

I have no information as to the statement referred to in the question. If particulars can be furnished of the works which are required to put these roads in a good state of repair, I will see whether it is possible to render or obtain any assistance.
