HC Deb 21 March 1923 vol 161 c2599W
Major KELLEY

asked the Secretary for Mines what are the total contributions of

South Yorks. Notts. Derbyshire.
£ s. d. £ s. d. £ s. d.
Contributions 149,065 19 9 70,954 6 4 78,878 15 9
Local Allocations 109,308 0 0 81,935 19 11 72,265 8 6

The Act requires that four-fifths of the total contributions paid by the several districts shall be allocated for local purposes. In the eases of Notts and Derby the allocation figures include certain sums provisionally allocated in advance on account of future contributions, with the object of allowing certain of the larger schemes to be commenced immediately. The purposes for which the money has been allocated vary, but they are mainly for the provision of recreation and sports grounds and institutes. Allocations for local purposes are, as a general rule, made upon the recommendation of Joint District Welfare Committees, and the actual payment of the sums allocated is made as and when it is required by the persons responsible for carrying out the scheme.
