HC Deb 21 March 1923 vol 161 cc2587-8W
Mr. HANNON

asked the Minister of Health whether he is now in a position to state from the Reports of the 1921 Census the total number of males and females returned as occupied on Census day, 1921, and the number of such persons actually unemployed on that date?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

Statistics as to the number of males and females returned at the recent Census as following some occupation are being compiled county by county for publication in the county series of reports, and the figures for England and Wales as a whole will not be available till all the county tabulations are completed. With regard to the second part of the question, the Census Schedule was not designed to provide statistics of unemployment, and no such statistics can accordingly be included in the Census Reports.
