§ Mrs. WINTRINGHAMasked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he has received a copy of a translation of a petition from the Indian women in Fiji to the Governor asking for the continuance of the appointment of Dr. Staley; and, if so, whether, in view of the petition, he will reconsider his previous decision regarding such appointment?
§ Mr. ORMSBY-GORE:I have received a translation of the petition. The Secretary of State regrets that in view of the serious financial position in Fiji he would not feel justified in urging the Governor to revise his decision not to renew Dr. Staley's engagement.
