asked the Home Secretary how many certificates were issued in the Metropolitan Police District under paragraph (a) of Section 95 of the Children Act, 1908, in 1919, 1920, 1921, and 1922?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN:

I am informed that the figures for 1919, 1920, 1921 and 1922, are 45, 24, 22 and 21 respectively.

Cause of accident. Number of persons killed. Number of cases of serious injury.
Falls of roof and sides 548 1,911
Explosions of firedamp or coal-dust 73 123
By explosives (including accidents due to shot firing) 17 297
Haulage accidents (below ground) 212 1,127
Shaft accidents 40 97
I should add that the figures given for serious injuries due to explosions of firedamp or coal-dust, and to the use of explosives, include all injuries from these causes however slight.
