§ Mr. ORMSBY-GOREIn view of the necessity of economy in the expenses of the administration of Cyprus, the High Commissioner had proposed to reduce the number of district commissioners in Cyprus by one, by amalgamating the district of Kyrenia with Nicosia. But, in response to the urgent representations of the Greek inhabitants, including the mayors of the three municipalities affected, who spoke feelingly of the fate to which their towns and their own authority would be reduced in the absence of a resident British Commissioner, the High Commissioner decided to abandon the proposal.
