§ Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKSThe total cost of the British Army of Occupation on the Rhine during the twelve months ended 30th June, 1923, was £1,740,000 (exclusive of accommodation and miscellaneous services provided free by Ger many). Of this amount, £350,645 was covered by paper marks supplied by the German Government to meet local expenditure, so that the net cost was about £1,380,000. The amount received by the Treasury on account of cost of occupation and reparation during the same period, apart from the paper mark receipts referred to above, was £8,287,000.
