HC Deb 26 April 1923 vol 163 cc709-10W
Sir F. SANDERSON

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of the possibility of the Budget showing an appreciable surplus at the end of the financial year after deduction of the amount to be applied to the reduction of the National Debt, he will consider the advisability of inserting in the Finance Act of this year special provisions for applying any such surplus in excess of £5,000,000 to the relief of agriculture, the development of roads, new housing schemes, the reduction of taxation, or to any other purpose of social reform which the Government may consider advisable?

Mr. BALDWIN

The answer is in the negative.
