HC Deb 23 April 1923 vol 163 cc56-7W
Mr. W. THORNE

asked the President of the Board of Trade how many dozen pairs of leather gloves were imported into this country from various countries during 1922 and their value; and which country is the largest competitor against the British glove industry?

Lieut.-Colonel BUCKLEY

In 1922 the quantity of leather gloves imported into the United Kingdom from all sources amounted to 448,382 dozen pairs, valued at £1,206,898. If this total, 189,576 dozen pairs, valued at £688,818, were recorded as consigned from France, this being the largest total so recorded in respect of any single country.
