§ Lieut.-Colonel BUCKLEYAs a result of discussions with Dr. W. J. Black (the Deputy Minister of Immigration for Canada), agreements were signed on the 11th inst. by the Secretary of State for the Colonies and the High Commissioner for Canada providing for
- (a) a free grant of 80 dollars jointly by the two Governments in respect of the transportation expenses, etc., of up to 5,000 children between the ages of eight and 14 years sent to Canada during the present financial year under the auspices of a recognised child migration society;
- (b) a loan of the total cost of transportation (including ocean passage and Canadian railway fare) to female household domestics;
- (c)a loan up to 75 per cent. of the total cost of transportation in the cases of persons nominated by British subjects resident in Canada and guaranteed to be proceeding to agricultural employment.
