§ Lieut.-Colonel HOWARD-BURYasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he will make better arrangements at Holyhead for the examination of passengers' luggage arriving from Ireland; whether he is aware that a form only 30 feet in length is provided for the examination of the luggage of several hundred passengers; and whether he will give instructions to the newly-appointed customs officials to conform to the practice of customs officials at other ports of the United Kingdom?
§ Major BOYD-CARPENTERMy hon. and gallant Friend will appreciate that the railway company, whose business it is to provide accommodation for the examination of passengers' baggage, were required to improvise in some haste the best temporary arrangements they could to meet the changed conditions which arose on the 1st April. I understand that the provision of better permanent accommodation is being pressed forward.
