asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury what progress has teen made in meeting from the emergency fund the claims of seamen and others for personal and material damage suffered during the War?

Pending their Report as to the distribution of the £5,000,000 which has been provided for the purpose of makingex gratia grants in respect of damage suffered by British nationals through enemy action, the practice of the Royal Commission on Compensation for Suffering and Damage by Enemy Action is to recommend immediate payments on account in necessitous cases. Recommendations have been made in 827 cases and approximately £50,000 has been paid to date.
