Mr. D. DAVIESasked the Home Secretary whether any scheme Has been submitted to the Government for the bringing to British homes of about 250 children from the Russian famine area; whether under this scheme the Governments of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia are willing to co-operate in sharing the cost and service of conveying these children free of expense to England, and of arranging for the necessary quarantine; whether this proposal has been declined; and, if so, the reasons for doing so?
§ Mr. SHORTTThe answer to the first three parts of the question is in the affirmative. As regards the reasons for which the proposal was declined, I would refer to my reply to the hon. Member for Bodmin (Mr. Foot), on the 20th March last.
