HC Deb 09 May 1922 vol 153 c2029W
Mr. SUTTON

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will reconsider his decision on the question of the Entertainments Duty with a view to reducing the same; whether he is aware that millions of the working classes have suffered very large reductions in their wages recently, and that these are the people who have to pay the highest price of the Entertainments Duty, averaging from 30 to 40 per cent., while in the better-class districts they have only to pay from 10 to 15 per cent. of the Duty; and whether he will give a promise to reduce the Duty all round?

Sir R. HORNE

I can add nothing to what I have already stated on this subject in the course of the Budget Debates.
