HC Deb 09 May 1922 vol 153 c2025W
Mr. E. HARMSWORTH

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he will see that all officers who are being compulsorily retired shall be given every possible chance of getting other employment without prejudice to the amount of compensation to which they may be entitled; and whether, to promote this end, he will undertake that the competent authority to grant leave in the cases of officers recommended for compulsory retirement shall be the War Office instead of the commanding officer?

Sir R. SANDERS

The question of releasing officers already recommended for compulsory retirement in order to allow them to take up or seek civil employment is now under consideration, and it is hoped that orders will be issued on the subject in a few days. These orders will also contain instructions regarding the grant of leave.
