Mr. J. JONESasked the hon. Member for the Pollok Division of Glasgow, as representing the First Commissioner of Works, whether Messrs Macfarlane, whilst only employing a foreman and boy at the time they were granted the present contract, had previously employed sufficient staff to enable them to be placed on the Roll of Honour; and whether it is the policy of the Department to give preference to firms who have observed the pledge of the Roll of Honour?
§ Sir J. GILMOURThe Department is only concerned with the staff employed by a firm at the time of entering into a contract with such firm. It is the policy of the Department to give preference to firms who are on the King's Roll.
