THORNEasked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that the East Ham Trades Council asked for permission to hold a street collection on 1st April in aid of the Russian Famine Relief Fund, and that this permission has been refused without reason given; the reason; and whether he will have the application reconsidered?
§ Mr. SHORTTI am informed by the Commissioner of Police that it was found that the particular fund to which the East Ham Trades Council proposed to devote the proceeds of the collection did not collect money for relief, and any such proceeds would, therefore, have to be passed on to some other fund for distribution. This being so, the application was refused.
