§ Mr. M. JONESasked the Minister of Pensions what were the grounds of refusal of any allowance to the widow and two children of the late Bombardier E. R. Wellings, No. 3,857, Royal Field Artillery; whether he is aware that these unfortunate dependants are left without any provision for their future; that both his medical adviser and his employér certify that the late Bombardier Wellings enjoyed good health prior to enlistment; and that after his discharge the medical evidence testified to his suffering from the effects of gas poisoning while on military service abroad; and whether, having regard to this fact, he will see that a provision is made for the widow and children?
§ Mr. MACPHERSONThe widow's claim to pension was rejected on the ground that the cause of the late soldier's death, which occurred 21 months after demobilisation, was not connected with service. This decision has been confirmed on appeal by the Pensions Appeal Tribunal who had before them all the relevant evidence, including that mentioned in the question; and as the decisions of the tribunal are final, I have no power to reopen the case.
