§ Mr. A. HERBERTasked the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether his attention has been called to the fact of the systematic oppression of the Hungarians by the Rumanian Government; and whether Great Britain has consuls established in the annexed territories?
Mr. HARMSWORTHAs regards the first part of the question, I have nothing to add to the reply returned to my hon. Friend on the 18th March of last year. As my hon. Friend is doubtless aware, the stipulations regarding the protection of racial minorities in Rumania were, under the Treaty of 9th December, 1919, placed under the guarantee of the League of Nations. As regards the second part, there are at present consular officers at Cluj and Czernowitz, and the appointment of a third officer to reside at Temeswara has also been authorised.
