§ Sir W. de FRECEasked the Home Secretary whether, in view of the fact that on the death of a voter his wife is disqualified as a householder and is left off the register until she has requalified as occupier, he will consider the desirability of providing in the Representation of the People Act a new Clause removing such disqualification?
§ Mr. SHORTTThe question whether or not the widow in the circumstances described by the hon. Member is disqualified from remaining on the register580W has not been authoritatively decided. I believe there is some difference of opinion as to the interpretation of the Statute, but the question is one to be determined by the Courts in the first instance, and, as at present advised, I do not propose to introduce legislation on the subject.
