HC Deb 31 July 1922 vol 157 cc1023-4W
Sir H. BRITTAIN

asked the Attorney-General whether it has been brought to his notice that, at the desire of newly-appointed women justices of the peace, a summer school is to be held at the University of Oxford in one of the colleges, which has been lent for the purpose, so that some training in the administration of the law may be given to those women justices who so desire it; whether he is aware of any similar effort being made for the benefit of any lay magistrates of the male sex who so desire it: and, if not, whether he will make a recommendation that such a scheme should be supported?

Sir E. POLLOCK

No, Sir. I have no information beyond that contained in this question. If magistrates of the male sex desire such tuition, it would, I hope, be open to them to make similar arrangements with the authorities at the University.
