§ Mr. KILEYasked the Home Secretary what fees have to be paid by applicants for naturalisation; and what is the approximate cost to his Department of making the inquiries into the accuracy of the statements made by the applicants in question?
§ Sir J. BAIRDThe fee payable in respect of the grant of a certificate of naturalisation to a woman who was a British subject previously to her marriage to an alien is 5s. In all other cases the fee is £10. The work of making the inquiries and dealing with the applications is carried out by officers who perform many other duties, and no exact estimate of the cost is possible; but I am satisfied that the fee of £10, while it covers the cost, is not excessive.
