§ Mr. HALLSasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport whether he has received a petition signed by the inhabitants of the urban district area of Whitefield, including the medical officer of health, with regard to the condition of certain roads; and, if so, will he cause an inspection and inquiry to be held with regard to the same, with a view to the matter being dealt with as early as possible?
§ Mr. NEALI have ascertained that the roads in question are not highways re-1936W pairable by the inhabitants at large, and the responsibility for their maintenance does not, therefore, rest with the highway authority. One of the engineers of the Roads Department is visiting White-field in the near future, and will investigate the matter on the spot. On the receipt of his report, I will communicate with my hon. Friend.
