Sir J. D. REESasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he has seen the judgment of the Supreme Court of the Straits Settlements in the case of the Eastern Shipping Company v. the Attorney-General and is satisfied that the company received just and proper treatment from the executive Government in the circumstances which gave rise to the suit?
§ Mr. CHURCHILLI have read the judgment, and I have received a despatch from the Governor dealing with some aspects of the case; but I am still awaiting a report on certain other aspects. When this has been received I shall consider the representations made by the company on the matter referred to in the latter part of the question.
