§ Mr. T. GRIFFITHSasked the Minister of Health whether his attention has been drawn to the low scale of wages paid to masters and matrons of workhouses; whether he is aware that recently the guardians of Knighton, Radnorshire, advertised for a master and matron at a joint salary of £70 per annum, plus board and washing and unfurnished apartments; and whether, in view of the fact that these officials have to carry out multifarious duties of an onerous character, he will make representations to the guardians in question as to the inadequacy of the salaries offered?
§ Sir A. MONDMy attention has been drawn to the advertisement of the Knighton Guardians, and I am in communication with them on the subject.
