Mr. MARRIOTT

asked the President of the Board of Trade how many officials are now employed by his Department in the exercise of his powers under the Ministry of. Food (Continuance) Act, 1920, and the Ministry of Food (Cessation) Order, 1921; and whether he will present a return showing the salaries payable to the, officials so employed?

The number of officials employed in the Food Department of the Board of Trade on the 1st February was 511, as compared with 1,599 on the 1st April, 1921. These officials are engaged in the liquidation of the accounts of the Ministry of Food and the Royal Commission on Wheat Supplies, and in the settlement of claims by and against the Government. The hon. Member will find the desired information as to salaries in the Estimates which will be shortly presented.
