YATEasked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether, considering that State railway engineers are employed in almost every province in India, and have to live under just the same conditions as engineers of the Public Works Department employed in the same provinces, and are equally affected by the reform scheme, he will consider the question of putting the State railway engineers on an equal footing with the Public Works Department engineers so far as the right to retire on proportionate pensions is concerned?

§ Earl WINTERTONWhen the arrangements for retirement on proportionate pension were decided, the criterion was the extent to which the reforms scheme affected the control over officers' work. Many officers besides those on the State railways are working in the provinces, but are employed by the Government of India and, consequently, are excluded from, the scheme.
