§ Lieut.-Colonel ASHLEYWhile I am entirely in sympathy with the motive underlying my hon. and gallant Friend's question, and am desirous of encouraging in every way the use of British materials, I am not in a position to impose on local authorities the condition that only English stone shall be used on any Government-assisted road scheme, an expression which would include the whole work of maintenance and improvement on all Class I and Class II roads.
